Know which bank lines don't match, and why.
Bank reconciler is an AI bank reconciliation agent. It reads your bank statement and ledger exports, matches every bank line to a ledger entry by amount, date and reference, lists the exceptions with a suggested journal entry for each, and posts the reconciled closing balance to Slack. It never changes your books.

Why is bank reconciliation so slow?
Because it's line by line. Every bank line has to be found in the ledger, and the ones that don't match are the hard part: a fee taken off a deposit, a cheque that hasn't cleared, a payment nobody recorded. Done by hand, month-end turns into an afternoon of ticking and searching.
Without it
- Someone ticks off the statement line by line.
- Fees and unrecorded payments surface at year-end.
- Outstanding cheques get lost between months.
- The balance is off and nobody knows why.
With Bank reconciler
- Every bank line matched or explained.
- Exceptions grouped, each with a suggested entry.
- Reconciling items carried and shown.
- One closing balance, with its working.
What does an AI bank reconciliation agent check?
Every bank line is matched or explained. What's left falls into three groups, and together they give the reconciled balance.
In the bank, not in the ledger
Money that moved but was never recorded. Each one comes with a suggested entry or a next step.
In the ledger, not in the bank
Entries the bank hasn't seen yet, carried as reconciling items rather than forced to match.
Amounts that differ
Lines that match on date and reference but not on amount, with the gap worked out.
The reconciled balance
Bank closing balance plus or minus the reconciling items, shown step by step. If it doesn't tie out, it says so.
How does AI bank reconciliation work?
Every run follows the same five steps, then posts one summary. Each step uses one tool, and only the last one writes anything.
- 1
Finds your exports
The bank statement and ledger CSVs, uploaded as tables.
- 2
Reads the columns
Date, amount, reference and description, never assumed.
- 3
Matches every line
By amount, date and reference, each line matched once.
- 4
Checks what's left
Each exception gets a suggested entry; the balance shows its working.
- 5
Posts the summary
Lines matched, exceptions and balance, in one message.
- The 2nd of each month, once the statement is in
- @bank-reconciler does September tie out?
- Run when the month is marked ready to close
From one sentence to a reconciled balance.
Describe the job, let Arclyx draft the agent, test it once on your real exports, then read what lands in #finance. Every exception names the line it came from.
Paste the sentence. Arclyx picks the tools it needs and asks what it can't work out.
What should it do?
On the 2nd of each month, reconcile last month's bank statement against the ledger in our tables, list every exception with a suggested journal entry, and post the reconciled balance to #finance.
- Tools it can use
- Which tables hold the statement and the ledger?
- Tables · bank-statement-sep.csv, ledger-sep.csv
It writes the instructions and connects the tools. Nothing runs until you say so.

How do you automate bank reconciliation with AI?
Export your bank statement and ledger, give them to an AI agent, and tell it how strict to be. It matches every line by amount, date and reference, groups what's left, suggests an entry for each exception and works out the reconciled balance. In Arclyx that's five steps, starting with one sentence.
“On the 2nd of each month, reconcile last month's bank statement against the ledger in our tables, list every exception with a suggested journal entry, and post the reconciled balance to #finance.”
- 1
Describe the job
One sentence: which statement, which ledger, and where the summary goes.
- 2
Upload your exports
The bank statement and the ledger as CSV. Arclyx reads each one as a table.
- 3
Connect Slack
Arclyx asks for the one channel it may post to.
- 4
Watch a dry run
Optional. See one full reconciliation on your data before anything is posted.
- 5
Schedule it
The 2nd of each month, or whenever your statement arrives.
Or start from one of these sentences
“Every Friday, match this week's bank lines against the ledger and post only the exceptions to #finance.”
“On the 3rd of each month, reconcile the company card statement against the ledger and list every charge with no matching entry.”
“Reconcile all twelve months of bank statements against the ledger and list every exception still open, oldest first.”
“When I ask, reconcile the latest statement and write each exception as a suggested journal entry for our accountant to review.”
AI bank reconciliation vs other ways to reconcile.
A spreadsheet, QuickBooks and Xero each handle part of the job. Here is what each one does, and doesn't, do.
| Spreadsheet by hand | QuickBooks reconcile | Xero reconciliation | Bank reconciler | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| How lines get matched | You compare line by line | You tick each line against the statement | Suggests matches; reconciles ones it's highly confident in | By amount, date and reference |
| Lines that don't match | Whatever you note down | Left unticked until you fix them | You correct them on the page | Grouped, each with a suggested entry |
| Changes your books | When you edit the ledger | Yes, as you reconcile | Yes, as it reconciles | No, it's read-only |
| Where the data comes from | Exports you open | Your QuickBooks accounts | Bank feeds connected to Xero | CSV exports you upload |
| What you get | A worksheet | A reconciliation report | Reconciled transactions in Xero | One Slack summary with the working |

Is an AI agent safe to run on your books?
It reads your exports with read-only queries, writes one message, to Slack or your inbox, and never touches the ledger. You can see every run, and every run has a spend ceiling.
Every run is recorded
Every step, in order
Each run keeps a trace: which tables it read, what it queried, and what it decided.
Every rule, stated
Any looser matching rule it used is written into the message, so anyone can check it.
What each run cost
Tokens and cost are recorded per run and per agent, next to your plan's limits.
A ceiling on every run
A run that would pass its dollar ceiling stops and tells you, rather than carrying on.
It can
- Read the tables you upload
- Run read-only queries
- Post to one Slack channel you name, or email you
It can't
- Post or edit journal entries
- Connect to your bank or accounting software
- Change your tables
- Email anyone but you
- Post anywhere else
AI bank reconciliation, answered.
What is AI bank reconciliation?
Using an AI agent to match each line on your bank statement to an entry in your ledger, find what doesn't match, and explain it. Bank reconciler does the matching and the write-up; a person decides what to post.
Can bank reconciliation be automated?
The matching can. Bank reconciler matches every line by amount, date and reference, groups what's left, and suggests an entry for each exception. Posting entries stays with you: it never changes the ledger.
Does it work with QuickBooks or Xero?
It works from exports, not a connection. Export the bank statement and the ledger as CSV, from QuickBooks, Xero, your bank or a spreadsheet, upload them to Arclyx, and it reads each one as a table.
Will it post journal entries?
No. It suggests each entry with the debit, the credit and the amount. It uses account names only when they're in your data; otherwise it says you need to pick the account from your chart of accounts.
How does it decide two lines match?
An exact match has the same amount, date and reference, and each line is matched only once. If it uses a looser rule, such as dates a few days apart or a reference written differently, it says so in the message.
What if the balance doesn't tie out?
It says so, shows the working from the bank closing balance and the reconciling items, and lists what it couldn't explain. It doesn't invent an adjustment to make the numbers agree.
Can I get the summary by email instead of Slack?
Yes. Arclyx can send the summary to your own inbox instead of Slack, or as well as it. The email only ever goes to you, the person the agent runs for: it has no way to email anyone else.
Do I need to write code?
No. Describe the job in one sentence. Arclyx builds the agent, connects your tables and Slack, and shows you a dry run before you schedule it.
