# AI agent automation that runs on its own.

AI agent automation in Arclyx means an agent does its job without being asked: on a schedule in your time zone, when another system calls its webhook, or when someone @mentions it in Slack. Every run is recorded, a draft never runs on its own, and every schedule and webhook can be paused from one list.

## Why automate an AI agent instead of asking it?

Because the jobs worth an agent come back: the Monday report, the morning inbox, the new lead from the form. An agent you have to remember to ask is a chatbot. One that starts itself does the work while you're doing something else, and leaves a record of every run.

- Without it: You remember to ask, every time
- Without it: The report waits until someone has time
- Without it: Other systems can't hand work to the agent
- With Arclyx: It runs at 8 every weekday, in your time zone
- With Arclyx: A form or a deploy can start it
- With Arclyx: Your team asks it in the Slack channel they already use

## What can start an AI agent?

Four things, and one agent can use more than one: a schedule, a webhook, a Slack mention, or you.

- **Schedule**: Daily, weekdays, weekly or monthly, at the time you pick, in your time zone. Say it in the sentence (“every Friday at 9”) and the draft comes with the schedule.
- **Webhook**: Another system sends a request with a secret, and the agent starts. Any tool that can call a URL can hand it work: a form, a CRM, a deploy.
- **Slack**: @mention Arclyx in a channel it's been added to, and name a shared agent to ask that one. The answer comes back in the thread. In a channel it uses shared tools only, never anyone's personal inbox.
- **On demand**: Press Run it now on the agent's page, or @mention the agent in Arclyx chat.

## What do triggers look like in Arclyx?

Every agent's page has a Triggers panel: each schedule and webhook with Pause, Edit and Remove, and Add a schedule or Add a webhook underneath.

## Which trigger should you use for an AI agent?

Match the trigger to how the work arrives. Work that comes back on a calendar gets a schedule. Work that starts somewhere else gets a webhook. Questions your team asks in Slack get a mention. Everything else runs when you ask.

- **Same time, every time**: A schedule: the Monday report, the morning inbox, month-end
- **An event**: A webhook: a form is sent, a deal moves, a deploy finishes
- **A question**: A Slack mention, in the channel where the question came up
- **Once, now**: Run it now, or @mention the agent in Arclyx chat

## How do you automate tasks with AI agents?

Write one sentence that names the job and when it should happen; Arclyx sets up the trigger with the agent. These are the kinds of sentences that create a working automated agent, with the trigger each one gets.

- **Schedule**: “Every Monday at 9, check what Competitor A changed on its website last week and post a summary in #marketing.”
- **Webhook**: “When our website form sends a new lead, research the company and email me a brief.”
- **Slack**: “@Arclyx what did customers say about onboarding this month?”, asked in #product
- **On demand**: “Pull this month's KPIs and flag the biggest moves.”

## How do you run scheduled tasks with an AI agent?

Name an hourly, daily or weekly timing in the sentence (“every Friday at 9”, “every 2 hours”) and Arclyx sets the schedule when it drafts the agent. Add a daily, weekdays, weekly or monthly schedule in the Triggers panel on the agent's page. Arclyx never invents a schedule: if you don't name one, the agent runs when you ask.

- **How often**: Every few hours, daily, weekdays, weekly or monthly
- **When**: The time you pick, in your time zone
- **Where**: In the sentence, or on the agent's page
- **Pause**: Pause, rename or delete any schedule from one list

## How do you trigger an AI agent from another system?

Add a webhook in the Triggers panel on the agent's page. Arclyx shows its URL and a secret once, with a ready-made example. Send a request with the secret, and the agent starts in the background while your system gets an answer straight away.

```bash
curl -X POST "<your webhook URL>" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer <your secret>" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"input": "New lead: Jane Park, Acme, jane@acme.example"}'
```

- **What to send**: A plain input, or any JSON object, which the agent receives as data
- **Answer**: Accepted at once; the run happens in the background
- **Limits**: 30 requests a minute per URL, 64 KB per request; how many webhooks depends on your plan
- **Drafts**: A draft's webhook refuses requests until the agent is created

## How do you keep an AI agent's webhook secure?

Treat the secret like a password. Arclyx shows it once, when you add the webhook, and refuses any request that doesn't carry it. Keep it in the calling system's secret store, never in a page or a shared document.

- **Shown once**: Copy it when you add the webhook; it isn't shown again
- **Refused without it**: Requests without the right secret don't start the agent
- **Rate-limited**: Each URL takes up to 30 requests a minute
- **If it leaks**: Delete it and add a new one: new URL, new secret

## What happens when an automated run fails?

You hear about it, and it doesn't fail quietly forever.

- **Flagged on Home**: An agent whose last run stopped short shows as Needs you on your home page until you look.
- **Every run on the record**: Open the run to see the step where it stopped and why.
- **Schedules stop retrying a broken job**: A schedule that fails five times in a row pauses itself.

## Questions about agent triggers.

### What is AI agent automation?

An AI agent that starts itself: on a schedule, from another system's webhook, or when someone mentions it in Slack, instead of waiting for you to ask.

### Can an AI agent run on a schedule?

Yes. Daily, weekdays, weekly or monthly at a time you pick, in your time zone, or every few hours. Name an hourly, daily or weekly timing in the sentence and the draft comes with the schedule; add the others on the agent's page.

### Can another app start an Arclyx agent?

Yes, with a webhook. Any system that can send a request with a secret can start the agent and pass it data.

### Can I @mention an agent in Slack?

Yes. Mention Arclyx in a channel it's been added to, and add a shared agent's @name to ask that agent. It answers in the thread, using shared tools only. For anything personal, message Arclyx directly.

### What's the difference between an AI agent and automation?

Classic automation follows fixed steps you wire up. An AI agent is given a job and decides the steps itself, using your tools. AI agent automation is both: an agent that decides how, started automatically by a schedule, a webhook or a mention.

### Will a draft run on its own?

No. Schedules and webhooks only start agents you've created. A draft runs only when you try it, and that's a dry run: anything it would post or send is shown to you, not sent.
